# [Anniversary trip: ask the hotel to mark the day.](https://www.trymumm.com/categories/travel/anniversary-trip)

> An anniversary stay can come with a better room, a bottle waiting in it and a checkout that lets the morning last. Tell Mumm the occasion and the dates. Mumm asks the hotels that fit what they can add, and you pick one or none.

## Five extras that fit an anniversary.

- 01 · A better room, or a higher floor
A hotel can move you up for little when the better room would otherwise sit empty that night. Name your dates so it can check what is open.
- 02 · A bottle and a note in the room
A bottle costs the hotel what it pays its supplier, and a handwritten note costs a minute of staff time. Together they show the hotel knew why you came.
- 03 · A table for two, or the tasting menu
The restaurant is staffed for that night already. A table held for you fills a seat that might otherwise stay empty.
- 04 · Late checkout the morning after
The morning after is for breakfast and a slow goodbye. If no one is due in the room that afternoon, it can stay yours a few hours longer, and the hotel gives up only a delayed clean.
- 05 · Flowers in the room
A bouquet from a local florist costs the hotel little next to a night’s room rate. Ask for it to be there when you walk in.

## Ask once your dates are set.

- **As soon as the dates are set.** A hotel plans a surprise around your arrival day. Early notice gives it time to hold the room you want and arrange the table, the bottle and the note.
- **Before you pay for a package.** Anniversary packages come with a fixed set of extras. Ask what each one includes first. You may want the table and the late checkout and have no use for the spa credit.
- **With a second choice of dates.** Open rooms give a hotel more to work with. Tell Mumm which nights could move, and each hotel can offer the nights where it has space.

## Put the occasion in the request.

- **Which anniversary it is.** Say so if you want the hotel to mention it. Leave it out for a quiet stay.
- **Your dates and what can move.** Give the nights you want and the nights you could switch to. Hotels check what is open one night at a time.
- **The two or three things that matter most.** Put them in order. A room with a view might matter more than the table. Hotels build the offer around your top picks.
- **Anything to leave out.** Allergies, and anything you would rather skip, such as a bottle if you do not drink.
- **Your loyalty status.** Add any hotel membership you hold. The hotel can say which of its benefits apply to your stay.

## An anniversary request, ready to edit.

Example. Your request: “Two nights in Charleston in March for our tenth anniversary. We’d like a quiet room with a view and a table for two on Saturday night.”

Extras it names: Suite upgrade, Bottle of wine on arrival, Late checkout.

## Anniversary questions

## Do hotels upgrade rooms for anniversaries?

Some do, when a better room is open on your dates. There is no standard, because each hotel decides. Ask with your dates and the occasion, and compare the offers that come back.

## Should I tell the hotel it is our anniversary?

Yes, if you want the day marked. A hotel that knows can plan the room, the table and the note before you arrive. Leave it out if you would rather keep the stay quiet.

## Do I send the request before I book?

Yes. Send it first, so the hotels reply while the choice is open. You book with the hotel you pick. If you have already booked, tell Mumm where, and Mumm asks that hotel what it can add.

## What if the hotel adds very little?

Then you see that in its offer and can pick another one, or none. Nothing is agreed until you pick.
