# [Wine country trip: ask for the tour, the tasting and the ride.](https://www.trymumm.com/categories/travel/wine-country-trip)

> In wine country the hotel is the base for your days. Tell Mumm the region, the dates and who is coming. Mumm asks the hotels that fit about a winery tour for two, a ride between stops and a room that looks out on the vines. You pick one or none.

## Extras that make the days.

- 01 · A winery tour for two
A winery welcomes visitors who may take bottles home. A hotel with a good relationship with a winery can arrange a tour in a few minutes.
- 02 · A shuttle or a driver between stops
A hotel that runs a shuttle can add your stops to a loop it already makes. A driver is a bigger ask, so say how many are in your group. Either way, no one has to drive after tasting.
- 03 · A bottle of local wine on arrival
A bottle from a nearby winery costs the hotel the winery’s wholesale price. In the room, it welcomes you to the valley.
- 04 · A room that looks over the vines
The hotel chooses which room you get. A room with a view costs the hotel nothing extra when it is open.
- 05 · A picnic lunch for the tasting day
The kitchen already prepares meals for guests. A packed lunch takes the same ingredients and a basket.

## Ask before the tastings fill.

- **Before the tastings fill.** A tour or a visit to a tasting room often needs a reservation. A hotel that hears from you early has time to arrange it.
- **Ahead of harvest, if you travel then.** Harvest is a busy season in many wine regions. If your dates fall in it, ask early so the hotel can hold rooms and tour times.
- **After you choose your wineries.** If you have wineries in mind, name them. The hotel can say whether it can arrange them or suggest others nearby.

## Tell the hotel how you taste.

- **The region and the wineries you like.** Name the valley or the winery you want. A hotel knows which tasting rooms are near it.
- **What you like to taste.** Reds, whites or sparkling, and whether you prefer a tour or a seated tasting. A hotel can steer you to the right stops.
- **Who is tasting, and who is driving.** Say how many are in your group and whether anyone is not tasting. The hotel can plan a ride so everyone enjoys the day.
- **Your pace.** Two stops a day or four. Say how full you want the days, and the hotel can plan the ride around it.
- **Anything that limits the day.** Mobility needs, a stroller, or a guest under 21. Ask whether the tasting is open to everyone in your group.

## A wine country request, ready to edit.

Example. Your request: “Three nights in Sonoma in September for the two of us. We’d like a winery tour, a ride so neither of us drives, and a room that looks over the vines.”

Extras it names: Winery tour for two, Room with a view, Bottle of wine on arrival.

## Wine country questions

## Do I need a car in wine country?

That depends on where you stay, and tasting rooms can sit far apart. Ask the hotel what rides it can arrange, and plan for no one in your group to drive after tasting.

## Can a hotel arrange a tasting at a winery it does not own?

A hotel can say which tasting rooms it works with and what it can set up. Name the winery you want, and the hotel will tell you what it can do.

## Are tastings included in an offer?

Only if the hotel adds them. An offer lists what is included, so read it for the tour, the tastings and the ride. Ask the hotel to spell out anything unclear.

## What if we do not drink?

Say so. A hotel can offer other things for the day, such as a spa credit or a chef’s tasting menu. Tell Mumm what you would rather do.
